Real-world asset-focused network hits key milestone in journey to multichain future

Image
After moving to nominated proof-of-stake, an RWA-focused blockchain platform has reached a notable milestone in its journey. Creditcoin, a pioneering platform for real-world asset innovations that enables unbanked consumers to build a credit history on Web3, has announced the launch of the latest upgrade of its mainnet. This new release upgrades the RWA-focused blockchain consensus to nominated proof-of-stake (NPoS) and aims to improve on-chain liquidity for both borrowers and fintech lenders, emphasizing the principles of auditability, transparency and trust. Proof-of-work (PoW) was the consensus mechanism that started it all — with Bitcoin (BTC) introducing the concept to millions when it launched back in 2009. But as concerns over electricity use and carbon emissions grow, many crypto projects are now seeking eco-friendly alternatives. In 2022, after years of complex technical work behind the scenes, Ethereum made the leap to proof-of-stake (PoS). At the time, developers said this ...

How to send and receive payments on the Lightning Network

Image
Learn to use Lightning Network by setting up a wallet, funding it, and using it to make and receive payments. To send and receive payments on the Lightning Network, users must first set up a Lightning wallet and fund it with Bitcoin. From there, they can create payment channels and start transacting. This article will guide users through the process, from setting up their Lightning wallet to making their first Lightning payment. What is the Lightning Network The Lightning Network (LN for short, or simply “Lightning”) is a decentralized system for instant, high-volume micro payments that prevents users from delegating custody of funds to trusted third parties. It is a layer-2 protocol — a computer network built on top of the Bitcoin base layer (layer 1), the actual blockchain. The Lightning Network uses the Bitcoin base layer’s high protection standards to secure the network. Bitcoin is a payment system designed to be slow, and its transactions are finalized in as long as one hour; th...

Circle launches cross-chain USDC transfer protocol for Ethereum, Avalanche

The new protocol burns coins on the sending chain, and mints new ones on the receiving chain. Circle, the creator of US Dollar Coin (USDC), has launched a mainnet protocol that lets users transfer USDC between Ethereum and Avalanche, according to an April 26 announcement. Previously, Avalanche users who held USDC on Ethereum had to deposit their coins with a Circle partner or use a third-party bridge to transfer their USDC from one network to the other. The new Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP) protocol appears to do away with this need for USDC bridges. The team released a video on April 13 showing how the new protocol works. Unlike a traditional bridge, it doesn’t lock tokens sent to its contract. Instead, it completely destroys them and issues new tokens on the receiving network. Users can redeem these new tokens for bank deposits directly, by depositing the tokens with Circle or its partners. In the announcement, the team said that it expects CCTP to solve the problem of “f...
